FAQ
How much will it cost?
We know that weddings can be expensive to attend. One of the reasons we went with the camp was to keep it affordable for our non-Vancouver based friends. Your total cost for the entire weekend is $200 per guest. This includes the water taxi to and from Gambier, two nights accommodation and 4 meals Friday night through Sunday morning.
If for any reason this is not doable for you, please consider reaching out to us personally and we will work something out. We really, really want you there.
What should I bring?
Things to consider!
- Running or hiking shoes: if you want some hiking/sporting adventures
- Snacks: if you're going to need some energy between meals
- Sunscreen/bug spray: we all know those are unlikely to be needed though
- Rain gear: it's still BC
- Warm clothes: for the evenings of beachy bonfire goodness
- Swimsuit/towel/water shoes if you're willing to brave the Pacific at the end of summer. The beach is rocky. You've been warned.
- Musical instruments: so you can musically express your love for us. Nothing would make us happier. Seriously. Sheena lives for this.
- BYOB (and mix): if you have specific tastes, or if you plan on drinking outside of the wedding itself.
- Team Awesome: your cabin has electricity but is not heated. Warm pjs!
What does one wear to a camp wedding?
On the island
Wear whatever makes you comfortable. We have lots of nature adventures planned, so bring exploring clothes. And pack some layers, it might get chilly in the evenings.
At the wedding
Fancy it up a little! Bring your pretty dresses and party vests. Do keep our rustic location in mind though: stilettos might not be the best idea.
Can I bring my adorable babies/fur babies?
We know how amazing your kids are. We love them too.
We've made the choice to have a child-free wedding, within reason. We want to spend as much time as we can with our grown-up friends and the activities planned are very much adult-oriented.
However there are a few brand new humans amongst our guests so wee ones under 12 months are welcome if you absolutely can't be away from them. Please let us know in advance if that's the case.
If, for any reason, this causes a major problem for anyone, please speak to Kyle or Sheena personally and hopefully arrangements can be made to ensure you can attend.
And those furriest of babies? Fircom does not allow pets at the camp. So unfortunately no doggies or Sammiches allowed.
Will there be so much room for activities?
Yeah there will!
Saturday morning you will get to choose between a few including archery, canoeing and hiking.
Safety first though. Archery/watersports do not mix with alcohol and all activities (except hiking) must be supervised by Fircom staff. We're on a remote island, so no one's allowed to get hurt.
There is also equipment for croquet, bocce, volleyball, frisbee golf and soccer.
Gifts
Kyle and Sheena are pretty much set for stuff and things. Please do not feel even remotely obligated to bring a gift. You're coming all this way to a remote island for us. All we want are your smiling faces. Plus it's hard to take things back to Ontario with us.
